Named after Mifflin Kenedy, the town’s founder, Kenedy has a population of 3,473 as of 2020 and can be found in Karnes County. The county was named for a Texas Revolution soldier, Henry Karnes, and was recorded at 14,710 people in the 2020 census. Originally called Kenedy Junction, Kenedy rests between Highway 72 and Highway 181 and was founded in 1886. Once a small community with a single hotel and railroad to its name, it is now the economic heart of the area.

Becoming the Horned Frog Capital of Texas in 2000 and also nicknamed Six Shooter Junction, Kenedy is a unique city with a colorful personality and rich history. Already the largest city in Karnes County and continuing to grow and develop, it is the heart of energy support services, agricultural activity, and gas and oil extraction and exploration. It is also surrounded by rolling hills, wildflowers, and natural beauty.

Family-owned and operated since opening its doors in 2015, the 5D Grill And Lounge began with Patricia and Pete Dlugosch, fourth-generation ranchers of the area. Dedicated to their love of the community’s history and the cattle industry, they began a unique Texan Steakhouse. Serving top-quality, always fresh steaks, it has hosted some of the most famous country musicians in Nashville in addition to local Texan entertainment and performers.
 

Things to Do

Spreading throughout 26 counties, including Atascosa, Dewitt, Lavaca, McMullen, Live Oak, Gonzales, Bee, and Karnes, the Eagle Ford Shale runs from Mexico to the east of Waco and between Eagle Pass and Laredo. It is a geological formation producing hydrocarbons, leading to increased development toward generating cash and maximizing returns. Karnes particularly boasts a natural gas pipeline stretching across 42 miles.

Kenedy is an area ripe for ranching. Several Kenedy ranches boast rolling hills, fenced areas, stock tanks, and easily cultivable land for people looking to invest in ranch properties. One recreational ranch only ten minutes from Kenedy is a blank slate for any purchaser and boasts stunning views, a creek, and an excellent hunting area.

Escondido Creek Parkway is a linear nature park where guests can relax, play, walk, run, and, above all, enjoy the outdoors. One of its most delightful features is the modest waterway. Full of modern amenities and lush vegetation, the easily accessible park is a favorite local location. It is an ideal gathering area to enjoy nature and socialize with each other.

Boasting large open spaces and tall shady trees, Joe Gulley Park is a beautiful place. With a new addition established in 2020, it now features a jogging trail through lovely nature. Between the picnic tables and trails, it is a great place to relax and play.
