Cuero, Texas, is DeWitt County’s county seat, and the 2020 census recorded its population at 8,128. Founded in 1846, DeWitt County was named after its founder, Green DeWitt, and has a population of 19,824, as recorded in 2020. With a total area covering 4.9 miles, Cuero was founded in 1873, making it an older town with a rich history. It can be found near the Guadalupe River and boasts shopping and dining opportunities.

Listed among the coolest small towns in the country by Budget Travel Magazine, Cuero is the heart of South Texas, where all roads seem to lead. Boasting a vibrant downtown, it provides multiple museums and much art, culture, and history. Known for its incredible breakfast tacos, delicious eggs, and great tortilla shells, Rosie’s Mexican Restaurant is a small-town Tex-Mex eatery that always delights. Everything is made from scratch and full of flavor. Tokyo Grill & Sushi Bar, with top-class service and food, is an upscale diner where everything is ten out of ten. Asian cuisine is served for lunch and dinner in large serving sizes. All the food is delicious, the atmosphere is unique, and the service is spectacular.

La Bella Tavola provides guests with a gorgeous ambiance, including well-kept seating both inside and outside, light music, and respectful, attentive service. The food, from the seafood to the bread to the dessert, is all delicious. The Italian restaurant is a great experience in all areas, including presentation, taste, and service.
 

Things to Do

Cuero Park Municipal Golf Course is open six days a week to the public, and Mondays are open to members. A great time for all experience levels, golfers will find a beautiful and entertaining course. It is also a great venue for private events or weddings. Cuero Municipal Park boasts many activities. People who want to relax and picnic find barbecue pits, fire pits, picnic tables, and walking trails. For entertainment and beauty, the park hosts outdoor movies, plays, and events and features a community garden and a gazebo with local plants. The park also boasts a lake, thus providing a lighted pier for fishing and a beautiful view.

Celebrating the local history of cattle drives, the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum tells the compelling story of the cattle era. The museum features original movies, photographs, and authentic artifacts, including saddles, wagons, lassoes, and more. Guests can learn about many cultures, such as Native Americans and the American cowboys.

Dedicated to educating visitors about medical and pharmaceutical fields in addition to preserving the town’s heritage in those sciences, The Pharmacy and Medical Museum of Texas in Cuero was founded by Joe Reuss, part of a multi-generational medical field family. Guests can explore a vast collection of displayed and preserved artifacts and materials.
